The EDP Lisbon Half Marathon is back for more records!
The fastest half marathon in the world is back. For 2022, in the 31th edition, scheduled to May 8th, the EDP Lisbon Half Marathon will be, once again, aiming for new records. And, just like in last november, there will be a bonus prize of 50.000€ up for grabs in case of new records.
To achieve this it will count on some of the best athletes in the world, especially in the women’s field, including the kenyan Brigid Kosgei, the fastest marathoner ever (2:14.04 hours) and the 8th fastest in the half ever (64.49).
Tsehay Gemechu, the winner of last years race and the current course record holder (66.06) will also be present, with their fellow ethiopians Gotytom Gebreselassie (65.36) and Bosena Mulatie (65.43). The israeli Lonah Salpeter, the third fastest european ever (66.09), will also be present.
The time to beat for a new world record (in a womens only race) it’s 65.16 minutes, set by Peres Jepchirchir in Gdynia, at the 2020 World Athletics Half Marathon Championships.
In the men’s race, with the Kiplimo’s record on sights (57.31), the field has 11 runners with personal bests below the hour mark, 4 of them below 59 minutes: Kenneth Kiprop Renju (58.35), Abraham Cheroben (58.40), Kevin Kiptum (58.42) and Jorum Okombo (58.48).
Besides the international field, the EDP Lisbon Half Marathon will also have the best runners from Portugal, including Hermano Ferreira, Luís Saraiva, Rui Teixeira and Nuno Costa (in the men’s field) and Rafaela Almeida, Sara Moreira and Solange Jesus (in the women’s field).
In this years race – the half marathon it’s sold out -, there will be almost 10.000 runners form nearly 96 different nationalities. There are a few last minute bibs available for the Vodafone 10k.

Circuito SuperHalfs
The EDP Lisbon half Marathon will be the second race of the SuperHalfs Series.
The SuperHalfs circuit includes races in Prague, Lisbon, Copenhagen, Cardiff and Valencia. All was prepared to launch in the Spring of 2020 but had to frozen whilst large events and international travel were not possible during the pandemic, to guarantee the safety of participants and to ensure the great experience runners were expecting.
Runners will have 36 months to complete the series, starting from the date of the first 2022 race completed and can now create and download their own digital SuperPassport.
