BRESCIA GRAND PRIX 2024 PRESENTED FILIPPO TORTU and MARIE JOSÉE TA LOU – SMITH

On the terrace of the Hotel Vittoria, organizers presented to the city the Brescia Grand Prix

with the stars of athletics scheduled for Sunday, September 8

at the Gabre Gabric stadium in Brescia

A gala evening to raise the curtain on the event that on the afternoon of Sunday, September 8, will
bring the stars of athletics to the Gabre Gabric Stadium with the first exceptional testimonials who
have arrived in the city to ennoble the presentation of an event that promises spectacle.
Organized by the Raptors and Rosa Associati with the support by the City of Brescia, collaboration
and the prestigious Nike sponsorship, the first edition of a Meeting that has the ambition to
become a point of reference in the Italian and global track and field network.

The enthusiasm of the champions present in the hall to confirm their presence on the track was
contagious: Filippo Tortu, Olympic champion, vice World Champion and reigning European
champion with the Italian 4×100 relay team, and the first Italian athlete to break the 10” wall on
the 100 meters, is the first to believe in the project: “I am excited and proud to run for the first
time in Brescia,” he said in front of his image that will promote the Grand Prix Brescia 2024, ”I
know that the city is believing a lot in athletics and I can’t wait to get on the track, it will be a day
to remember for Italian athletics and I hope this is just the beginning of what could become a
wonderful adventure.”

Along with the italian sprinter another track and field star who is bound to Brescia by bonds of
affection that go beyond exclusively sporting aspects, confirm her presence on September 8.
Marie Josée Ta-Lou Smith, at 36, still has a desire to put herself on the line. The Ivorian sprinter,
double silver medalist (100m and 200m) at the World Championships in London, bronze in the 100
at the World Championships in Doha, has a deep personal bond with Brescia: “Brescia for me – she
smiles in front of the photographers’ shots – is now my second home, here I find the ideal
conditions to train and it is the reason why with my husband and my coach John Smith we decided
to finish here my preparation for the Olympics. We will stay until we leave for Paris, then in
September I will return for the Brescia Grand Prix and I’ll feel at home again.”
